Our Little Slice of Heaven...

...Is a sleepy little beach town called Sanur. We have spent the past 3 days here in a really neat hotel that is super close to the beach, the Segara Agung (which if you are ever looking to visit, is next door to the Hyatt Bali, but way better :) ).
View of the gardens from our porch

The hotel has beautiful gardens and a delightfully intimate pool that is the perfect temperature. Each room has air-conditioning and a private porch that over looks the gardens. Not sure you can ask for more.

The staff is super friendly and does their best with English, but the smiles are universal.
Nothing like enjoying some local brew by the pool

While here we had the opportunity to explore Sanur durning the Hindu celebration of Galgungan, which is the celebration of virtue over vice.

This Balinese-Hindu celebration takes place once every six months and is marked by a banner of victory, called a penjor, which every Hindu household flys in celebration.

The penjors are made of bamboo poles, and are decorated with palm leaves and the essentials for the gods including rice and flowers.

Along with the penjors are these little "mailboxes," which serve as a place to submit your offerings to the gods...which are also pretty cool, and very decorative.

On one of our strolls around town, we happened past a very old public temple, and Leland befriended a woman and her granddaughter while they were making their offerings.

She told us that the offerings are all things that offer good luck to the gods
and can range quite a bit from cigarettes, candies and Balinese moonshine
called Arak; but always includes cooked rice, flowers and incense.

Bali Bound!

Hi everyone! We are here at the Seattle Airport getting ready to make the second leg (of four legs) of our international journey. It is really nice being able to "unplug" and not think about emails or phone calls (yes, I let my phone at home...but my responsible husband has his).

The next time you hear from us, we will be 15 hours ahead of you, lying on a beach in paradise!
